Wigtown Book Festival Workshop

Workshop Venue

Glass Painting Workshop

I ran a glass painting workshop at the Wigtown Book Festival 2024 in the County Buildings, Nature Room, using traditionally crafted glass beakers from Cairo.

I encouraged the ten participants to paint their glass beakers in the style of the Islamic medieval period, incorporating geometric shapes, foliage, animals, calligraphy, bands, and dots, drawing inspiration from templates and printouts.

Authentic beakers were designed with various materials and tools. The expressive representations blend ancient processes with modern advancements.

The aim was to raise awareness of a culture not traditionally associated with Scotland’s heritage while highlighting the beauty of Islamic art.
